Overview of Grants Program
The Firland Foundation awards grants supporting work in a variety of programs primarily related to tuberculosisand secondarily to chronic lung disease. Our grant activities are separated into 3 parts.
- Community Based Grants
A primary funding focus of the Firland Foundation is community health projects, education, and advocacy programs related to tuberculosis or other chronic lung diseases.. Our goal is to support innovative programs that have a direct impact on those who are underserved and affected by or at risk of TB infection or chronic lung disease. The Firland Foundation also funds small investigator-initiated research projects in the field of tuberculosis or other chronic lung diseases. Our goal is to support research in its initial phase so that it grows to make a long-term, sustainable impact. In honor of Dr Cedric Northrop, former TB Control Officer for the Seattle-King County Health Department, the Firland Foundation supports a tuberculosis research training fellowship within the University of Washington Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Training Program. The Cedric Northrop Fellowship is intended to support the training of a specific fellow in tuberculosis research methodologies, as a form of career development award. The purpose is to provide the fellow with the opportunity to develop independent faculty-level tuberculosis research funding. Only one fellowship will be provided each year. A Cedric Northrop Fellow may be awarded up to 3 years of funding if there is evidence of sufficient progress and promise on annual progress reports. -
Graduate Pulmonary Nursing Fellowship:
The goal of this fellowship is to recruit and retain high caliber graduate nursing students who are committed to nursing practice, education, or research in tuberculosis (TB) or other pulmonary diseases at the University of Washington, School of Nursing. The fellowship provides up to 2 years of funding for tuition and related educational expenses, not to exceed $30,000/year. The fellowship is administered by the UW School of Nursing.
