Human Subjects Review Board Approval
When funding is provided for research activities involving human subjects, Human Subjects Review Board approval is required prior to release of funds. Because timely completion of funded projects is desirable, research projects for which the Human Subjects Review application has already been submitted (or is ready for submission) are viewed more favorably.
Final and Progress Reports
Grantees are expected to submit a final project report, due June 30 of the year following receipt of grant funds. The final report should include an evaluation of the efficacy of the project based on the specific outcome measures initially identified in the grant and a final accounting of the budget monies spent. Unspent funds exceeding 10% of the grant will require Foundation approval for other use.
For projects requesting a no-cost extension, a progress report is due by June 30 of each year until the project is completed (max of 2 years). The report should include progress to date, budget monies spent and an explanation of any unexpected issues affecting completion of the project.
Grantees are not eligible to apply for additional grants unless all previously funded Firland projects are completed and a final report has been submitted.
Acknowledgment
In an effort to increase public awareness of the Firland Foundation and its mission, we expect some form of acknowledgment as the funding organization. For example, this could be accomplished by affixing a plaque on funded equipment or lab space, or by acknowledging the Firland Foundation in the presentation or publication of research findings.
Publications
The Firland Foundation requests that a copy of any publications resulting from work funded by the Foundation be provided for our files. These may be submitted via email as PDF files.
